Discovering facts, creating knowledge and exploring new forms of human expression: that is graduate study in the College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Alabama. Whether graduate study takes place in one of our state-of-the-art laboratories in Shelby Hall, in the acclaimed Concert Hall of the Moody Music Building, or in our speech and hearing or psychology clinics, the extent of creativity and discovery is reaching new heights.

As a comprehensive institution, The University of Alabama is a leader in benchmarks of quality such as number and quality of research proposals; patent applications; quality of faculty hired, particularly in endowed positions; reviewed research publications; performances and exhibitions; and invited presentations.

The most significant aspect of the University and the College’s research and scholarly activity is the funding available to graduate students. It provides monthly stipends for students as well as payment of tuition, insurance and fees.

In addition, the Graduate School and the College of Arts and Sciences annually support most of the College’s graduate students by helping fund thesis and dissertation research and travel expenses associated with presenting scholarly work at meetings.

We hope you will join the College’s nationally recognized faculty as a graduate student at The University of Alabama.

Sincerely,

Dr. Susan Carvalho
Dean of the Graduate School
